Perpetrator: her uncle Mojtaba Namdar
Fatemeh Ghozati (16 years) lives with her mother Bariha Rahmani, sister and brother in the district Shahrak-e Aseman, Southeastern Tehran.
On the night of May 22nd, 2020, they had a friend of her mother with her daughter as a guest.
Mojtaba Namdar is the notorious criminal brother of Bariha's ex-husband who had announced by telephone that he would be visiting with his girlfriend to talk to them about his visit to her ex-husband in prison.
Fatemeh had just come home after a long journey. "The fatigue could be read from her face," her mother said. When she arrived, she greeted everyone. She shook hands with her uncle's friend when Mojtaba asked her why she looked 'like a monkey'. Fatemeh became angry and answered him."
The quarrel between Fatemeh and Namdar escalated. Rahmani tried to send her daughter to a neighbour's house, but the neighbour was not at home, so Fatemeh returned to the apartment. When Namdar saw her, he became furious and violent. He attacked Fatemeh and hit her head against the wall.
Rahmani managed with great difficulty to separate Fatemeh and Namdar and finally convinced Mojtaba to leave together with his girlfriend.
But the quarrel didn't end there. The teenager Fatemeh couldn't resist sending another angry text message to Namdar. The content of the message made Namdar so angry that he returned to the flat, and after he beat up Rahmani, he turned to Fatemeh and threw her out of the window of the eleventh floor in front of Rahmani and her friend's daughter.
Family members point out that Mojtaba Namdar confessed to killing Fatemeh in front of all their neighbors before the emergency services arrived at the scene of the crime. But after the girl was declared dead, he withdrew this and claimed that there had been no witnesses.
At first Mojtaba Namdar acknowledged to have committed the murder and said he was going to pay blood money, but after talking to the police he threatened the witnesses and made it look like a suicide.
After Mojtaba Namdar had been released on bail, Rahmani decided to complain in the media: "He threw my girl, my pride, for which I had worked hard for 16 years, out of the window before my eyes and then put her body in my arms. He has now been released on bail and is walking free. He threatens my son, and says to him, 'It's your turn now!'.
I'm afraid for myself and my children. Tell me, in which other country in the world, if a murder was committed and all the evidence points to the fact that it was murder, would the accused be released on bail two weeks later?"

What is an honour killing? |
An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:
Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey. |
